Drop 2: Siskiyou Fluff Butts

After realizing her friends seemed to be on a downward financial spiral, Elizabeth Freeman checked in with the Los Angeles couple about how things were going.

Her friend, Alicia, lived with her fiance and two children – one a new baby. Alicia admitted the family had recently become homeless: having exhausted staying with friends or family, they were now living out of their car.

“After sending them a few funds for food, I decided I wasn’t able to help them being so far away,” Elizabeth said. “So, my husband purchased them bus tickets for them to leave everything there and move up here and placed them in one of my dad’s apartments.”

“Up here,” is in Siskiyou County, a place Elizabeth came back to after finding financial trouble in Los Angeles herself. Within two weeks, Alicia’s fiance had a full-time job.

“While things were going much better for (Alicia and her fiance), they were still living paycheck-to-paycheck and having to utilize emergency services for emergency diapers,” Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth had used cloth diapers with her own family and realized how much money that saved her.

This is sadly almost an all welfare community,” she said. “Anybody not on welfare is sadly living paycheck-to-paycheck. We also have a large number of single mothers here in our community.”

All this together with the realization of how she could help others save money lead to the launch of Siskiyou Fluff Butts. Elizabeth reached out and applied to partner with Jake’s Diapers, and is now on among our growing list of Diaper Drop partners.

You have helped me with diaper kits to give to our families in need!” she said. “I have already helped 6 families with cloth diapers and we have our first class this Saturday! I really do believe that bringing cloth diapering to this area will really help a lot of families!
