Jake’s Diapers Selected by GlobalGiving for Red Backpack Fund

Jake’s Diapers has been selected to receive a $5,000 COVID-19 relief and recovery grant from The Red Backpack Fund, a collaborative effort between GlobalGiving and The Spanx by Sara Blakely Foundation. Jake’s Diapers, based in Little Chute, Wis., is a nonprofit organization providing hygiene essentials to solve diaper need and end period poverty.

“We are so grateful for this grant,” stated Stephanie Bowers, Founder and Executive Director of Jake’s Diapers. “Our organization has experienced unprecedented demand during this pandemic. In the first six months of 2020, Jake’s distributed more than 1.1 million diapers, period products and other essential goods, impacting more than 26,500 lives. That’s a nearly 85% increase over ALL of 2019.”

“My hope is that this gift will help alleviate some of the pressures caused by this horrible pandemic,” said Spanx Founder Sara Blakely. “Twenty years ago, I started Spanx with $5,000 in savings, and I see this as a time to pay it forward. I want to provide some relief to small business and organization entrepreneurs during this time,”

The Red Backpack Fund is designed to combat economic hardship caused by COVID-19. Jake’s Diapers was selected for the grant based on its urgent need for COVID-19 relief and its demonstrated capacity to overcome COVID-19 setbacks.  1,000 women entrepreneurs will be receiving the funds; selected by a women-led team heading the selection process. The team included grant specialists, social workers, female entrepreneurs, analysts, and monitoring and evaluation experts.

“We’re pleased to include Jake’s Diapers as a recipient of a Red Backpack Fund grant,” said GlobalGiving CEO Alix Guerrier. “The world needs more women-led organizations who are a key force in overcoming COVID-19 and establishing a better normal.”
