The Bottom Line: February 2019

From the Director’s Desk

4,427 is a number that fills me with endless hope and relentless joy. 4,427 individuals now are cleaner, drier, and healthier thanks to YOU! The impact of diapers goes beyond just the person relying on them- through you, we’re empowering families. Families like Alice’s. Alice is the proud mother of baby Derek. Derek was born with a heart malformation, which meant he needs specialized care, 24/7. This meant Alice is unable to work, and struggling to make ends meet. It was an honor to give her diapers, and she was overcome with emotion.

Diapers are so much more than diapers, and I truly thank you for the opportunity to help Alice, Rehema (read on to meet her!), and other Moms just like them. This Valentine’s Day we have a little something special planned to help more kids with special needs, who are waiting for Forever Families. I can’t wait to share more with you.

Thank you for endless hope and relentless joy.

Thank You For Helping Kato

At only two weeks old, Kato suffered from a severe case of cerebral malaria which caused him to develop cerebral palsy. His mom, Rehema, was determined that his diagnosis would not define him or their life as a family.

They joined the Community Care program at Ekisa Ministries in 2014. Reheme proudly watched as Kato steadily made progress from his hard work in physical, occupational, and speech and language therapy.

Today she beams whenever she shares how proud she is to be his mom. Her love for Kato is undeniable. She shared with us that her greatest source of joy in life is seeing her children happy and thriving.

Rehema is a resilient mother who believes wholeheartedly in her son’s God-given potential and worth. She is giving Kato the opportunity to flourish and grow in a loving, supportive home.

Kato and his mother lives in Jinja, Uganda and thanks to you they know have an ample supply of diapers to keep Kato clean, dry, healthy and in school through Ekisa Ministries, one of our Diaper Drop partners.

Thank you for your continued support. Every dollar makes a difference for children like Kato and mothers like Rehema. We couldn’t help so many live joyful lives without supporters like you.Help Children Rise Out Of Poverty

The shutdown may be over but that doesn’t mean things are back to normal for federal workers and government contractors. Families are still playing catch up.

Jake’s Diapers recently held a pop up event in Green Bay so government employees could get diapers and hygiene products for their families. Cloth diapers were kindly donated by Lighthouse Kids Company to support this cause.

We often forget about basic hygiene necessities until we are forced to prioritize our shopping list. Often when we think about poverty we think about lack of food, clothing, shelter and water. Diapers and period products are often overlooked. We were happy to help our furloughed neighbors.

If you or someone you know is in need of hygiene products due to the shutdown, please apply for individual aid on our website.

This is AVO control!

Our partners at Nicki’s Diapers are releasing an adorable limited print series to support our efforts in Puerto Rico. The print line is called AVOLOVE and it’s absolutely gorgeous! Watch Nicki’s exclusive print reveal on Facebook here.

We wouldn’t be able to help nearly the number of families we do without the support of friends like Nicki’s Diapers. Thank you for helping save babies!

We have even more volunteer opportunities in our new, bigger space! Group  dates are filling up fast. If you’d like to schedule a group, please contact us soon!

We also have an ongoing need for laundry helpers. New cloth diapers need a few washes before they are ready to use. We provide the detergent but we need your help to wash them! If you are interested in washing new diapers for us, please contact us. This also works as a group opportunity if you have a group that would like to do a “Laundr-o-thon.”

In our December enewsletter, we told you about a great new exhibit at the Building for Kids Children’s Museum in Appleton, Wisc. It really is fabulous and you should check it out! However, we’d like to clarify the information regarding a diaper drive related to the exhibit opening:

The Building for Kids Children’s Museum (BFKCM) and Kimberly-Clark’s Huggies® and Pull-Ups® brands have opened the new Babies & Toddlers Around the World exhibit and are celebrating by inviting the community to join them in a diaper drive. Through February 3, 2019, families who bring in an unopened package of diapers will receive free daily admission to the BFKCM. BFKCM Members get an additional month to their Membership. All diaper donations will be matched by Huggies and donated to Jake’s Diapers and the United Way Fox Cities Diaper Bank.

We apologize if errors in our original story created any confusion. Thank you for Kimberly-Clark and BFKCM for their support of the community and of Jake’s Diapers!
