NBC26 Cares Diaper Drive!

NBC26 & Jake’s Diapers Team up to Solve Diaper Need in North East Wisconsin

Kaukauna, WI- Jake’s Diapers has been blessed with an extremely amazing opportunity to help families here in Wisconsin experiencing diaper need:  NBC26 has chosen to do a week long Diaper Drive (cloth and disposable) Oct 24th-28th! This Diaper Drive will kick-off live at NBC26 during the Morning Show on Monday, Oct 24th, and features a full day “Stuff-The-Truck” at Festival Foods in De Pere Thursday, October 27th; with special visits from the De Pere Fire and Police Departments, and a bounce house too!

Did you know that 1 in 3 families here in the United States struggle with diaper need, the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep a baby clean, dry and healthy?  Diapers are a basic need that cannot be obtained with food stamps, and no state or federal child safety-net program allocates dollars for the purpose of purchasing diapers. Here in Wisconsin, 19% of the population under age 3 lives in families earning less than 100% of the Federal Poverty Level (National Diaper Bank Network).

Cloth diapers can be an option to solving diaper need. Modern cloth diapers have come a long way in recent years, no pins! They can resemble disposable diapers in ease of use and function, only they are washed and reused. Cloth diapers are also an option for use in daycares, and Wisconsin Licensing Rules allow for use of cloth diapers. Furthermore, according to the U.S. Census, 68% of people living at or below the poverty line live in a home with a washer and dryer.

For this Diaper Drive, both cloth and disposable diapers are being collected (any size, including adult, as well as open packages), as well as financial contributions. Any monetary donations will be allocated for cloth diaper kits to completely solve diaper need for babies here in Northeastern Wisconsin. For Jake’s Diapers, the cost to cloth diaper a baby from birth to potty training is just $231. To diaper a baby in disposable diapers, the average cost is over $2,000 per baby. Furthermore, did you know each baby in disposable diapers generates over one ton of garbage that takes over 300 years to decompose? Approximately 15% of our landfill waste is from diapers.

Are you ready to make an impact? Financial contributions can be made f or babies in Green Bay or  Fox Cities & Oshkoshor mailed to Jake’s Diapers, 139 E. 2nd St., Suite U2, Kaukauna, WI 54130.
